Excellent Talk on AllStarLink
Excellent Talk on AllStarLink
During the week, we had an excellent talk, which focused mainly on ASL3, how it can be used, and the network’s advantages.
What is AllStarLink?
- It is a network of Amateur Radio repeaters, remote base stations, and hot spots that are accessible to each other via Voice over Internet Protocol.
- Runs on a dedicated computer (including the Raspberry Pi) that you host at your home, radio site or computer centre.
- It is based on the open source Asterisk PBX running our app_rpt application.
- App_rpt makes Asterisk a powerful system capable of controlling one or more radios.
- It provides linking of these radio “nodes” to other systems of similar construction anywhere in the world via VoIP.
Following on, let’s look at:
AllStarLinks Use:
- Its primary use is as a dedicated computer node connected to your repeater or radio.
- Connections from Echolink, other VoIP clients and telephone calls are supported.
What Attracted Members to this?
- The Ability to build something that was Raspberry Pi based.
- To be able to operate using a simple standard FM Radio.
- Audio Quality
- To be able to join to other nodes
- You can access via RF, SIP, IAX, mobile and desktop apps
- There is just one network
- There are many networks 🙂
How Do I Use AllStarLink
1. Via an FM repeater that is AllStarLink enabled. …
2. Via a local micro-node that is purchased by a HAM operator to join the AllStarLink network.
3. Via PC/Mac software that allows you to connect directly to a node. …
4. Via a mobile app such as DVSwitch Mobile to connect directly to a node.
